ROOTDIGGER AND PAST TIMES

The Marion County Genealogical Society has periodically published a newsletter/journal almost from its inception. The first publication was called Past Times. A highlight of Past Times is the number of original historical documents from Marion County that have been scanned and published. The MCGS currently has scanned copies of Past Times from October 1990 to September 1998. These issues are being added to our archives on a continual basis. The collection is incomplete as some issues are missing. If they can be located, they will be scanned and added to our online archive.

The name of the newsletter was changed to The Rootdigger in late 1998. Our online collection begins with Vol. 1, No. 3 and continues to the present day. Some issues are missing because they couldn't be found. Other gaps occured during times when publication was temporarily suspended. The Rootdigger is published quarterly. It contains notes of interest to the members of MCGS, and articles relating to Marion County genealogy and to genealogy topics in general.

We offer particular thanks to the Alachua County Public Library for allowing us to scan and publish the issues they have in their archives. Thanks also go to Joel Swanson, Roger Goddard and Matt Reilly for making the trips to Gainesville and publishing the documents to our website. If any of our early members have copies of any of the missing issues in your personal library that you would allow us to scan and publish, please contact Joel Swanson at president@mcgsocala.org.
